Share a note

A note from Melta Notes can be published as a read-only web page with its own link, for people who don't use Melta. The note itself stays on your computer; the page is a copy that exists only while the note is shared.

  1. Open the note and tap ⋯ › Share….
  2. Tap Create Link for a link anyone can open, or With Password… and type the password readers will have to enter first.
  3. Your phone's share sheet opens with the link. Send the password separately.

The page shows the note as it is at that moment, with its project and kind and the date it was updated. Headings, lists, checklists, tables and code blocks render as they do in the app, and a mermaid code block renders as a diagram.

Download or print

Under the title the page has Download .md, which saves the note's Markdown as a file, and Save as PDF, which opens your browser's print dialog with a clean layout; choose Save as PDF there. Both need the password first when the link has one.

Passwords

With a password, the link opens a form instead of the note. After a right answer the browser keeps a cookie for that one link for 30 days, so the reader isn't asked again. The password is stored only as a hash, so Melta can't tell you what it was; set a new one if it's lost.

From ⋯ › Shared Link… you can Set Password…, Change Password… or Remove Password at any time. A change logs every reader out; they need the new password the next time they open the link.

Keep it current or stop

Edits you make after sharing stay private. Update Shared Copy replaces the page with the note as it is now; the link and the password stay the same. Stop Sharing removes the copy from Melta's server and the link stops working.

The id is random, so the link itself is the only way to find the page. It asks search engines not to index it, and the server tells browsers and caches not to store it. Links don't expire on their own. See What the server stores and Share a chat.
