Share a chat

Share chat turns part of an agent conversation into a read-only web page with its own link, so you can send it to someone who does not use Melta. This page explains what is published and who can see it.

  1. In a chat, tap ⋯ › Share chat….
  2. In Share Chat, choose Last messages and set how many with the minus and plus buttons (5 by default), or choose Everything, which shows the total in brackets.
  3. Check the preview. It shows the message the share starts from and how many messages it includes.
  4. Tap Create Link. Your phone's share sheet opens with the link.

Only messages you or the agent wrote count toward the number. Tool calls and their output between those messages are included with them. If the chat has nothing loaded yet, Melta says Nothing to share yet.

What gets published

The share is a snapshot of what the app has loaded at that moment. Later messages are not added. The page shows:

  • The pane's title as the page title.
  • The agent (Claude Code, Codex or the agent's name), the computer's name in Melta, the number of messages and when it was shared.
  • Your messages and the agent's replies.
  • The agent's thinking, folded under Thinking.
  • Each tool call as one line, such as Ran with the command or Edited with the file path.
  • Tool output, folded under Output or Error.

Read the messages before you share. Commands, file paths and tool output in them are published as they are, and anyone with the link can read them.

Very long conversations are trimmed from the oldest end until they fit the size limit.

Links look like this:

https://getmelta.app/public/share/<22-character id>

The id is random, so the link itself is the only way to find the page. Anyone who has it can read it without signing in. The page asks search engines not to index it, and the server tells browsers and caches not to store it.

Links do not expire. The snapshot is stored on Melta's server, linked to your account. See What the server stores.

Removing a shared chat

The app does not have a button to remove a link yet. Deleting your Melta account removes every chat you shared; see Delete your account. For anything else, contact support.
