Approvals
Agents stop and wait when they need permission or an answer. Herdr marks the pane as blocked, and Melta gives you a way to answer from the phone. This page covers the approval card in chat, the live screen panel, and answering from a notification.
When an agent is blocked
A blocked agent shows Needs input with a red hand on the host screen, and is listed under Needs you in Jump To. In its chat, the phone gives a short vibration and shows what the agent is waiting on.
Claude Code's choices
When Claude Code shows a menu in the terminal, Melta reads it off the screen and shows it as a card you can tap:
- Questions Claude asks you, with each option and its description. With several questions, the card shows which are answered. Multi-select questions get checkboxes and a Next button, and a last card lets you check your answers before submitting.
- Permission prompts (Do you want to proceed?), with the command or file they are about and every choice, not only yes or no.
- Plan approval, with the plan and its options.
Options that take your own words (Type something, Tell Claude what to change) open a text box on the card. Cancel sends Esc. Screen opens the live screen panel. Each tap sends the same keys you would press in the terminal, so answering in the terminal instead works too: the card follows along.
Allow, Deny and View
When there is no menu to read (Codex, or a prompt Melta doesn't recognise), the chat shows the last lines of the agent's screen and a card with Allow, Deny and View:
- Allow sends Enter to the pane.
- Deny sends Esc to the pane.
- View opens the live screen panel, titled Agent is waiting for you, so you can see the whole prompt and pick an option yourself.
Allow presses Enter on whatever the prompt has selected. When a prompt offers more than yes or no, open View and choose with the keys there. While the agent is blocked, an ordinary message you send comes back as Not Delivered, with a note to answer the approval first.
The live screen panel
The panel shows the bottom of the pane's screen as text and refreshes it about once a second. Under it is a row of keys that go straight to the pane:
| Key | Sends |
|---|---|
| ↑ ↓ ← → | Arrow keys, to move through options |
| Tab, Space | Tab and space |
| 1, 2, 3 | The number, for numbered choices |
| y, n | The letter |
| Return | Enter, to confirm |
| esc | Escape, to cancel |
Tap Done to close it. You can also open the panel at any time with the eye button under the message box, or with ⋯ › Show screen. Slash commands that open a dialog bring it up by themselves; see Slash commands.
From a notification
A notification for a blocked agent has Allow, Deny and Open. Allow and Deny work without opening the app: Melta connects to the computer from the phone in the background and sends Enter or Esc, the same as the buttons in chat. Open takes you to the chat. See Notifications.
If the prompt is not detected
Melta relies on Herdr to tell it an agent is blocked. Herdr's detection is strict on purpose, so a prompt it has not seen before can show as idle. You then get no approval card or notification. Open the pane's live screen or the terminal and answer there.
