Delete your account
You can ask for your Melta account to be deleted at any time. This page explains how to request it, what is removed, and the clean-up you may want to do on your own devices.
Request deletion
- In the app, open Settings and tap Delete account at the bottom. It opens getmelta.app/delete-account. You can also go there from any browser.
- Enter your Account email, the address you sign in with. For Sign in with Apple, use the address Apple gave Melta, which may be a private relay address.
- Add a note if you like, then tap Request deletion.
Melta confirms by email to that address before deleting, and finishes within 7 days. You can also email privacy@getmelta.app from the address you signed up with.
What is removed
Deleting the account removes it and everything linked to it on Melta's server:
- Your account details and synced settings.
- Your saved computers and their notification history.
- Your registered phones and their push tokens.
- Every chat you shared. Their links stop working.
The full list of what the server keeps is in What the server stores.
What stays on your devices
Deleting the account does not touch your phone or your computers. You may want to clean up:
- Keys on the phone. SSH keys and passwords stay in the phone's Keychain or Keystore. Remove them by deleting the app.
- The phone's key on each computer. Delete the line ending in
melta-iphoneormelta-androidfrom~/.ssh/authorized_keys. - The notification plugin. It stays installed in Herdr, in
~/.local/share/melta/herdr-plugin. Once the account is gone, its token is no longer accepted, so it cannot send anything.
Removing one computer instead
To remove a single computer without deleting the account, open it, tap ⋯ › Edit Host, and tap Remove Host. This deletes it and its notification history from the server, and deletes its saved key or password on this phone.
Sign Out in Settings only signs you out of the app. It does not delete anything.
